What are all star & post season tournament teams ?

These are teams at different age & skill levels which present Bedford Little League players and opportunity to continue playing after the regular recreation season is complete.  Players are given an opportunity to represent Bedford at a state, region or even national level depending upon the success of the team and the opportunity of that level with the highest being the possibility of playing at Williamsport, PA in the Little League World Series.

What are the different teams (in no particular order) ?

11/12 Year Old District Team

10/11 Year Old District Team

Jimmy Fund 'A' Team (also known as 10 Year old District Team)

Matty Dobens Team

Jimmy Fund 'B' Team

Jimmy Fund 'C' Team

Wooden Bat Team

Dave Anderson Tournment Team

What is the committment & schedule ?

A high level of committment is expected throughout the team's practice & game schedule as they will be representing Bedford and Bedford Little League.  For District teams a 100% committment is expected.  Carefully consider this before trying out.

Below is an estimate of the schedule by age which may differ week to week based on the game / tournament schedule. Though the schedule is different per team it start in late June as soon as playoffs complete & can run through the end of July.

12 yr old District - 5-7 Days per week

11 & 10 yr olds District - 4- 6 Days per week

Wooden Bat Team - 3 - 4 Days per week

All others - 4 - 5 Days per week

 

How are players selected ?

The 12 year old District team is selected by a Majors wide player & manager voting process as described in the below.

Players of age 8 to 11 must complete a tryout to be considered and the process is followed as outlined below.

a.       The 11/12 Year Old District Team will chosen based on the Following Criteria

                           i.      All Players currently playing in the Majors will vote for 13 players from any team in the Majors.  A player is only allowed to vote for 13 players.

                         ii.      The Manager and  assistant coach from each team will vote for 13 players from any team in the Majors.

                        iii.      The votes will be tallied and the top 7 (11/12) year old vote getters will be chosen for the team.

                       iv.      The remaining 6 Players will be chosen by a vote from the Managers of the Majors teams. 

                         v.      Based on votes the next 3 players with the highest number of votes from the  Managers will chosen as the  3 Alternates to play if a player from above  decides not to play  These 3 alternates will be placed on the 10/11 district team assuming they are not age 12.

 

b.      The 10/11 District Team will be selected as follow

                           i.      All 10 and 11 Year Old players interested in playing for the team must attend the Evaluations that will be held toward the end of the season.

                         ii.      The top 7 (11) year old players will be selected for the team.

                        iii.      The 3 alternates for 11/12 roster (if 11 years old) will placed on the team. The remaining 3 Players and 3 Alternates will be chosen by a vote from the Managers of the Regular Season Majors teams.

                       iv.      Based on votes the next 3 players with the highest number of votes from the  Managers will be chosen and the last 3 as alternates to play if a player from above  decides not to play.  These alternates will be placed on the Jimmy Fund A team assuming they are not age 11.

 

c.       The Jimmy Fund A Team will be selected as follows:

                           i.      All 10 year olds interested in playing for the Jimmy Find A team must attend the Evaluation that will be held toward the end of the season.

                         ii.      The top seven (10) year old players will be selected for the team.

                        iii.      The 3 alternates from District 11 (provided the player is 10 years old )will placed on the team. The remaining 3 Players and 3 Alternates will be chosen by a vote from the Managers of the regular season AAA teams.

                       iv.      Based on votes the next 3 players with the highest number of votes from the  Managers will chosen and the last 3 as alternates to play if a player from above  decides not to play.  These alternates will be placed on the  Matty Dobens team.

 

d.      The Matty Dobens Team will be selected as follows:

                           i.      All 9 and 10 year olds interested in playing for the Matty Dobens team must attend the Evaluation that will be held toward the end of the season.

                         ii.      The top seven (9&10) year old players will be selected for the team.

                        iii.      The 3 alternates from Jimmy Fund A team will placed on the team. The remaining 3 Players and 3 Alternates will be chosen by a vote from the Managers of the regular season AAA teams.

                       iv.      Based on votes the next 3 players with the highest number of votes from the  Managers will chosen and the last 3 as alternates to play if a player from above  decides not to play. 

                         v.      Based on votes the next 3 players with the highest number of votes from the  Managers will chosen and the last 3 as alternates to play if a player from above  decides not to play.  These alternates will be placed on the Jimmy Fund B Team assuming they are not older than 10.

 

e.       The Jimmy Fund B Team will be selected as follows:

                           i.      All 9 and 10 year olds interested in playing for the Jimmy Find A team must attend the Evaluation that will be held toward the end of the season.

                         ii.      The 3 Alternates from the Jimmy Fund A Team will be placed on the Team

                        iii.      The remaining 13 players (10 players and 3 alternates) will be selected based on their evaluation rank.

                       iv.      If a player decides they do not want to play one of the 3 alternates will replace them.

 

f.        The Jimmy Fund C Team will be selected as follows:

                           i.      All 8 and 9 year olds interested in playing for the Jimmy Find A team must attend the Evaluation that will be held toward the end of the season.

                         ii.      The 3 Alternates from the Jimmy Fund B Team will be placed on the Team

                        iii.      The remaining 13 players (10 players and 3 alternates) will be selected based on their evaluation rank.

                       iv.      If a player decides they do not want to play one of the 3 alternates will replace them.

 

g.       All team selections will be posted to the BLL web site within 48 hours of the selection

 

The Wooden Bat Team Selection  is determined from a separate evaluation after the above teams are selected.

How are Managers selected for Post Season & All - Star Teams ?

They are selected as outlined in our By-laws and posted below.  As players on teams are selected candidates who had announced an interest in writing/email will be invited to present to the Board on their candidacy and the following procedure will be followed: 

 

SECTION 2 -MANAGER SELECTION -The Board of Directors shall select the all star

manager based on the majority vote of the board members in attendance after the selection of the all-star team. The board shall make its selection based on names submitted to the board in writing form managers active within the Bedford Little League. The attitude, baseball knowledge, general conduct and sportsmanship shall be the primary factors in selecting the manager of the all star team.

 

Any eligibility requirments for players ?

 

Players must be between 8 & 12 (different specifics within that range for the different teams as outlined above) and have played in Bedford's Little League program this season and been in the lineup for a minimum of 60% of their teams games.  There are different age requirments for the various Dave Anderson Tournament teams as this is geard towards players in the 5 - 8 yr old range.

 

What are the costs involved ?

In general the cost should be approx. $100 covering uniform & tournament fees.  Some tournaments are less (ex.  Dave Anderson is typically approx. $10).  Feel free to inquire at tryouts for more specific detail.
